simple mod_rewrite !

Hey everybody,
i've been playing with mod_rewrite to try and get a simple rewrite working but i'm missing something, and its not working.
i have a page that is users/?user=somename and i want it to just be /somename
the somename will be dynamic so it can't be hardcoded. Anybody out there done this before? I already have the following rewrite rules on to get rid of the use of .php file extension
Syntax: [ Download ] [ Hide ]Syntax: [ Download ] [ Show ]RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php
Deleted .htaccess with simple mod_rewrite - don't know regex
Linux
Hello, all.
So, the regex I had, told mod_rewrite to extract the stuff after / and put it after ?page=
In otherwords:
http://example.com/contact would be translated to http://example.com/?page=contact
If someone could help me re-create this single mod-rewrite rule, I would be very grateful.
If you are feeling adventurous, is there a way to get mod_rewrite to do something where
http://example.com/contact/form/help (etc) would translate to http://example.com/?var1=contact&var2=form&var3=help (etc) where var(n) has (n) replaced with the number of the match?
Darn it, I really need to learn regex.

"Simple" mod_rewrite URL, is not re-written!
Linux

On my site when a link is clicked, the adress bar in the browser shows this URL:

http://www.enkelt-webdesign.dk/index.php?sid=1&titel=FORSIDE

I would lke the URL to appear like this:
http://www.enkelt-webdesign.dk/Forside

I have this code in my .htacess file which is not working as it is:

<ifModule mod_rewrite.c>RewriteEngine on#Regler til index.phpRewriteRule ^Forside$ index.php?sid=1&titel=FORSIDE</ifModule>

THIS IS ACTUALLY WORKING, WHEN THIS LINKED IS FOLLOWED - BUT THEN WHEN I CLICK ON THE LINK AFTER I HAVE ARRIVED TO THE PAGE, THEN I GET THE UGLY URL WITH THE QUERY STRING AGAIN. HOW CAN I KEEP THE PRETTIER
