ZX5000 powers on, but blank screen

HOME ยป Hardware

Okay I have a Zx5000 laptop with a pentium 4 and 1.2 gb of ram and
have been having problems with it lately

a little while ago the
laptop kept on giving me a blank screen on boot, it would just sit
there forever and nothing, but everything powered on, lights cd drives
fans everything. so i found out after that that if i turn it off and
on over and over again it would WORK, and if i turn it off and let it
sit for about 1 minute or so it would come back on without a problem,
anymore than that and the problem comes back

when i can finally
get it on and put it on standby and leave it for a while it happens
again, but this time its on standby with a blank screen

so a mo

I have a Gateway MA7 MX5669 running Windows 7 that will power up
but the only activity that can be seen is the CD Rom and the hard
drive startup for a few seconds. I tried a trick that I read about
where you press the 'on' key down for 60 seconds with the battery
removed and then plug it in. It is supposed to bleed off some
residual charge in the PC but it did not work for me.

I removed
reinserted and then removed the two 1gb memory sticks. No beeps
nothing different than before. I have hooked the laptop up to an
external monitor.
Nothing. All the usual power lights are on and
the fan is running as normal. It is as if the normal bootup got
truncated after about 5 second

Hi, I recently purchased a computer. I just replaced the stock
heatsink with a thermaltake big typhoon

from newegg, and I
installed new motherboard mounting screws as well. I had to remove the
motherboard

in order to do this.

Now, when I press the
power button, the fans go on, the new cpu fan turns on, the video card
fan goes,

and the power led is on. However, all I get is a
black screen.

I have experimented and found that the harddrive
does not make noise unless I unplug the IDE cable

first.
Similarily, the DVD RW tray does not open unless I first unplug the
IDE cable to it.

I think it is a motherboard issue, but I could
be wrong. A

I took apart my vaio laptop (I have had experience with Vaio
Laptops) and put it back together twice trying to figure out why the
screen is blank and also the indicator (LED indicator) that looks like
a cup does not lite up. Everything else works. The screen for the
laptop is fine, its just that the laptop is 3 to 5 years old. The only
reason I took it apart is because the ram had 512MB worth of ram and
it only indicated that it has 256MB. I noticed it awhile ago, but it
pissed me off so I took it apart and put it back together, I found out
the reason the ram wasn't working. The ram needed to have something
being forced on it with the lid closed, so it will reconize it. Any
suggestions.

Hi,
I have a zx5000 hp laptop and have been running Ubuntu Heron
and then Intrepid for a while now and never have been able to get the
card reader working.
I have googled and also searched these
threads and wonder if anyone was ever successful. I have tried
several methods with no success.
The card reader is a Texas
Instruments PCI1520/1620.

I was on Skype on a hot day inside the house yesterday and our 6
month old laptop just went blank but still powers on. I can turn it
off by holding the power button for a length of time.
