Java ME: Are there some good opensource APIs which make the limited Java ME more Java SE like?

Recently I started playing around with Java ME.
The standard
API seems very limited to me, compared to recent Java SE.

Are there some good opensource APIs which would make Java ME more
Java SE like?

Here's my situation.

I use RBAC model to control
function-level ACL, and use hard-code (if/else in my business code of
DAO/Service layer) for fine-grained ACL.
But, my customer can't
figure out requirements of fine-grained ACL right now.

So,
I think maybe it's time for me to extract fine-grained ACL logic from
business code. Decouple them and centralize them.

Is there
any good suggestions? Framework or libary?

Are there any Java APIs (or web services) to
beautify/format/pretty-print the html, xml and .java source code
files?

So basically, I m indexing these various types of
files in Apache Solr server and then fetching it when user searches
for it. I m using Solr Cell for this. (Its like a grepcode
application.)

The problem here is the file content comes
as a plain text w/o any formatting (as the Solr field type is 'text'
in the schema).

I m looking for any APIs (in Java) or web
services so that I can hook it up in my application and convert the
text (String in Java) to well formatted output to show on a web
page.

Java

I have a flash app which will send/receive a constant stream of
data.

the flash app should open a connection to the Java
server, keep it open, and attempt to reconnect on socket
failure.

Are there any good APIs that offer this
functionality? Smartfox Server is one option, but if I had my way I'd
embed an API in my app rather than contort my app to run under
Smartfox.

Ideally it would offer an API on the flash end,
another on the Java end, and efficiently (java nio preferably) handle
the network component in between. I would just define handlers on both
the client & server.

Java

I would like to use the java.text.Normalizer class from Java 1.6 to
do Unicode normalization, but my code has to be able to run on Java
1.5.

I don't mind if the code running on 1.5 doesn't do
normalization, but I don't want it to give
NoClassDefFoundErrors or
ClassNotFoundExceptions when it runs.

What's
the best way to achieve this?

Java

I want to build an upload applet / desktop client that can resize -
trim and then send an image to my amazon s3 bucket.

/>

Trimming my images has proven to take the longest and be the most
cpu intensive. On my server when a user uploads a image using an html
form I use imagemagick command line tools to do the trim and resize.

What tools would you guys recommend using?

/>

Edit: I need to be able to automatically crop images. Something
similar to the imagemagick trim function.
