How do I create custom fields like mobile number in customer registration form without modifying magento core files?

How do I create custom fields like mobile number in customer registration form without modifying magento core files? I tried but the mobile number is not saved in the DB

I override the Mage_Customer_Model_Entity_Setup class with Myown_Mage_Customer_Model_Entity_Setup by creating Model/Entity/Setup.php in my modules folder and added the following code to the array in getDefaultEntities

'mobilenumber' => array(
'label' => 'Mobile Number',
'visible' => true,
'required' => true,
),

Magento: Why doesn't login and registration forms validation work when combined on one page
Web Design

EDIT 051012:
Turns out that the issue was less to do with the forms being on one page but more to conflicts between prototype and jQuery; there was a inclusion of jQuery right at the bottom of the footer which was not set to no conflict. I simply added this after the inclusion of that particular jQuery:

I'm accepting Pavel Novitsky's answer below because he mentioned, "If assuming that you have no form embedding or JavaScript errors your code should work.." and that made me realize that it might have something to d

user groups in registration form magento
8/12/2014 10:20 am Web Design

I have 2 types of users in my site - Group A and Group B. I need to create separate registration forms for these 2 type of users.

There will be 2 steps :

 1. On the first page, 2 buttons will be displayed : Group A and Group B

 2. Based on the button the user clicks, the form for that particular user will be loaded.

The form fields will be different for each group.

Now I have 2 questions :

 1. I'm using the install script in this post (Adding Custom Signup Attributes in Magento 1.7) to create the columns in the eav_attribute table. So, should I create the columns for both the user groups in the same table?

 2. How do I assign the user group dynamically?
