copy video files from Samsung DVD-HR775 to PC

HOME ยป Hardware
I would like to copy video files from my old Samsung DVD-recorder
(DVD-HR775) to a PC or any external HD. On the DVD-recorder HDD have
been stored a lot of family videos, converted from VHS, and the
originals do not exist any more.
Does anyone have an idea or
suggestion how technically these files could be copied or
backuped?
I thought this would be simple, wrong again...
My wife has a
video recorded at a friend's party, on DVD-R. It plays just fine on
Ubuntu Desktop 8.10 with Totem movie player (I think I installed xine
instead of gstreamer in case it mattters, although I have no idea what
the difference is.)
OK, she asked me to make a copy of the DVD, I
said no problem. Used Brasero to create a .iso, then burned it to a
new DVD. When I try to play the new DVD I get a message something
like... "The media appears to be encrypted, have you installed
libdvdcss?" Huh??? How did the copy become encrypted? Or is this
a bogus message?
Any EASY way past this? My kno

After copying upto about half of the video, nautilus displays error
message that it can't read from the source . I am able to copy the
video upto that part . Did you encounter any situation like this . Do
you know any hack or technique to copy video files (or any file)from a
dvd(or cd)with a lot of scratches?

Hi everyone.
I have search the net several times to find a
solution to this but have not come across anything as yet so thought I
would come as you guys for some advice or thoughts.
I have
recently created a back-up server where it backs up 3 windows machines
to one xubuntu based Linux machine. This all works well and creates
the back-ups nicely. It does everything I need except one feature. />I need the Snapshots created to be backed up to a removable device
such as CD or USB Key. I am looking to use CD/DVD as it would be
easier for the person I am setting this system up for. Here are the
features I am looking for:

Hi there.
could somebody tell me what would be the best way to
copy an encrypted DVD?
I purchased the DVD of my daughter's
kindergarten play and would like to make a copy.
the DVDs are
encrypted and I'm not to sure how to go about making a full copy. />In windows, whenever i made copies to HD, i would end up with a
audio and video folder.
Programs like handbrake seem to just want
to convert every thing. I'm not too sure but I think that would kill
the menus and chapter option.
So any ideas how to make a full
copy?
Thanks

I have a video in a .MOD file format burned to a DVD. The video
appears to play fine from Windows Media Player and others. When
attempting to copy the video file off of the DVD, windows explorer
freezes with a red progress bar. I tried tera copy (i'm looking for a
free utility of course) and that froze. I've tried making an ISO of
the disk, Poweriso encounters the error and offers to skip the cyclic
redundancy check but still freezes. I would give up if it weren't for
the fact that I can see the movie play just fine! So how do I recover
this corrupted file, or file from a corrupted media?
