Struggling with Samba a little and wondering if I could have some help please. I am fairly new to Linux so please be easy on me. I have set everything up and all the AD stuff seems setup and its connected to my AD can list all users and groups etc etc. When I try to access a share it just keeps asking for username and password Here is what is contained in samba.log:

I've setup my samba to be a fileserver for the windows machines on my network. Just a network drive basicly.
The folder needs to be writeable by guest users, however, if i could deny access from local users on the server, that would be sweet.
I don't want users ssh'ing into the machine to have access to the folder /home/fileserver/, but everyone accessing the folder through Samba should have write access.
Is this possible somehow?
[ubuntu] Windows cannot access Samba without guest access
Ubuntu
Basically, I recently reformatted the computer that I use as a personal server - not entirely server oriented, so it is using standard ubuntu desktop edition instead of server edition since I do use it for playing videos on the TV as well. I had to reformat due to removal of the old windows partition.
Before I had been using an older version of ubuntu and the samba file sharing worked 100% perfectly, but when I decided to set this one up, I chose to update to the latest version, which is apparently giving windows trouble logging in.
The problem in detail: When I attempt to access the Shared folder one of two errors occurs, it either asks for my password repeated

Hello all, I've been searching through many a posts here and have found some similar threads, but nothing thus far to solve my problem. Here's the low down: I'm running Karmic, newly installed with the lastest version of Samba. Here is my (very basic) smb.conf:

netbios name = MATTSERV-SERVER
guest account = guest
writeable = yes
workgroup = MSHOME
os level = 20
username map = /etc/samba/user.map
encrypt passwords = true

directory mode = 777

path = /home/mattserv/Shared

[xubuntu] Samba File server setup, write access only on request possible?
Ubuntu
Hi, still green so don't hurt me :D
I'm currently setting up a file server and am testing configs on a old system before it gets here. I currently through trile and error got samba working with user/pass. along with ssh somewhat settup.
Current setup basically has just xubunto installed + samba and open_ssh. What I would like to do is set is have the samba shares as read only unless the user specifically requests write access to be allowed on the shares. eg. they use putty to ssh into the box with there username/pass then run some kind of command. (which would then give their username write access to the samba shares they have access to)
Also if possible I
