hello, i dont speak english very well. I thing i have an issue, i
installed ubuntu 14.04 with separate partitions /boot=2gb
/(/root)=100gb /home=50gb /swab=12gb and others, so i checked the free
space with gparted and i surpriced /(/root)=100gb its 100gb free space
its empty. the others partitions get informations like usage space but
/(/root) not. Could you like to explaint me whats happen in that
partition?

i get into /home 30gb free space and 50gb usage space. but My ubuntu
14.04 run very well so if its free space in /(/root) maybe i get a
resize this partition to 20gb or 50gb and put it into /home to get
more free space.

Last time when i has ubuntu 12.03 every partition gets usage space
/home /root /boot /usr /var and ran very well. i didnt found
explication to the free space into /(/root).

Regards.
Morning all,

Struggling with Samba a little and wondering if I could have some help
please. I am fairly new to Linux so please be easy on me. I have set
everything up and all the AD stuff seems setup and its connected to my
AD can list all users and groups etc etc. When I try to access a share
it just keeps asking for username and password Here is what is
contained in samba.log:

Please help! What else do you need to know?
I've recently updated from 15.04 to 15.10, and since then I will
get these glitches and lines across the screen intermittently. Very
occasionally (and I haven't worked out how to reliably replicate this)
the screen will go black for a second then the entire screen will be
garbled. Most of the time I'll open an application and it'll mess up
like in the screenshots attached below.

I have a laptop made in 2006:

Compaq Presario v6000 series

V6254EA

Video card:

Intel corporation mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML express integrated
graphics controller (rev 03)

I have installed Google Earth which displayed fine with XP on this
machine. When I try to run it on lubuntu 15.04 I get the message:

"Unsupported Graphics Card. Your graphics card does not meet
the minimum spec required to run Google Earth, which is a 3D
accelerated card with shader support. It is strongly recommended
that you try running Google Earth on a different machine or in a
different rendering mode or upgrade to a newer graphics card. You
may continue, but the application is unlikely to work."

It does not work, it just exits, but I can't see that the graphics
card hardware is at fault, given that it works fine on XP?

I tried going into 'additional drivers' (I used this recently to
successfully get the broadcom wifi working) and looking to see if I
could enable a proprietary driver for the video card or something, but
no relevant option presented itself.

I thought about trying to enable something relevant via a video card
control app, but I couldn't locate one in lubuntu anywhere.. quite
possibly I've not looked in the right place?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I had installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my Dell Latitude 3550. I worked
with it with almost no problems for a week. Due to a href="http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3525/t/19665328"
target="_blank">problem with the touchpad , I tried ubuntu 15.10
by booting from a usb stick. After that, I could not boot from the
hard disk anymore. The laptop enters into system checking mode and
reports that no bootable medium is found. I tried to href="http://www.dell.com/support/article/no/no/nobsdt1/SLN297060/en"
target="_blank">repeat the steps from this page in order to
(re)create a boot option but this had no effect. All grub files
(grubx64.efi,grub.cfg,MokManager.efi,shimx64.efi) were accessible from
the BIOS in order to create the relevant boot option (of course I was
choosing grubx64.efi according to the instructions) .

I had to install the system from the beginning (now ubuntu 15.10 it
is...) in order to be able to use the laptop. I need to find what the
problem is, since I will always be afraid to boot the laptop from a
USB medium.

(e.g. is it only for ubuntu 14.04 or also for 15.10, if I can do
something from the BIOS or correct something in /boot using ubuntu
booted from usb etc)

Bear in mind that I cannot do any tests, since my laptop is up and
running (takes more than half a day to bring it to this state with all
my files and software!) and I cannot risk loosing everything
again.
Hi,

I'm a bit sketchy on the details here and I cannot boot in to confirm
anything. Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS. I have the only copy of important photos
on the HD. Also it is encrypted.

I followed this link:

href="https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/RemoveOldKernels"
target="_blank">https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lu...moveOldKernels />
and deleted what I thought were old kernels.

However when I put

dpkg -l linux-image-*

into the terminal it listed several kernel versions but as far as I
can remember they were listed as

'linux-image-3' (then a space and then more details about the
version)

Further down the list there was: 'linux-image-5' so I presumed that l
was safe to enter:

sudo apt-get autoremove linux-image-3

Is there anything that I can do? Thanks in advance
So I use a Dell Inspiron 15-3521 that uses Windows 8. I took care
of the PXE-E61 error by disabling NIC. Then the next error that I also
had with PXE-E61 is: 1234F, which I don't know how to fix. I followed
the instructions to use Boot-repair through my working Ubuntu 14 live
CD, and clicked Recommended repair. but it still didn't work after a
reboot, and gave me the same 1234F error.

target="_blank">http://paste.ubuntu.com/14309128/

How to do this? I don't understand the paste report.

I also have Hirens boot CD, if somehow I can use that????
Hi all

My laptop specs:

Processor : intel celeron 560 2.13ghz

Ram : 1 giga DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)

GPU : Intel® GMA X3100

Rom : Hard disk 160 GB

I want to know what is the best linux based os for it , shall it be 32
bit or 64 bit os and how to install all its drivers as well.

thx in advance :)
All,

A few years ago, I wrote a sci-fi novel trilogy, called href="http://www.battleforthesolarsystem.com" target="_blank">The
Battle for the Solar System. Recently, I started working on a
game, set in the trilogy's universe.

The Pandoran War is a 2D mission-based space shooter, where you take
on the role of multiple pilots and starfighters, to battle against a
hostile force threatening to eradicate the human race. The game is
non-linear, with the player granted the chance to tackle missions as
they see fit (as long as prerequisites are met).

Sources:

The game is hosted on GitHub at : href="https://github.com/stephenjsweeney/tbftss"
target="_blank">https://github.com/stephenjsweeney/tbftss. There
are a few known issues in the v0.4 release, which are fixed in the
develop branch on github, and will be added to the v0.5 release,
around March / April time. Feel free to play the develop branch,
instead of master, if you prefer. The game depends on SDL2, and is
mainly mouse driven.

I'm blogging about stuff I'm working on for the game every now and
again at my personal website: target="_blank">www.stephenjsweeney.com, if you fancy checking
that out, too.

Oh, I highly recommend you read the online manual, here: href="http://www.battleforthesolarsystem.com/games/pw/manual/"
target="_blank">http://www.battleforthesolarsystem.com/games/pw/manual/ />

Happy New Year!

Steve :)
I'm paraphrasing as it's not in front of me. And I apologize if
this ground has been trod before, I can't find it.

I have an SSD boot disk, and a 3tb HDD I want to use for storage. I
formatted (ext4) and mounted the HDD, and created a directory there.
In all it's path is /media/HTPCstorage/recordings. As in if you were
in /var/lib/ you'd go ../../ media/HTPCstorage/recordings

So I go into the mythtv setting to change the storage directories
(because /var/lib is a silly place for recordings to go, though since
it's guaranteed to exist, I can see why they'd use it) but I get an
error (on exit) everytime! Paraphrasing, but it's one of two things:
I either get 'path doesn't exist' or it appends an extra / at the end
and says /media/HTPCstorage/recordings//.test couldn't be saved. I
have tried every variant on the path name I can think of, prepending
/, the leading ../../

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I was working on this
until very late last night and waited until I could sleep on it to
post. No nighttime epiphanies. :( TIA!
