On my Laptop I am running a win database client on virtual box
and want to connect to a MySQL server running on the linux host.
Everything is set up and working perfectly with one basic problem I
have to solve now:

The connection to MySQL wasn't possible through localhost. Thus I used
the wired IP address of my home office (the ip assigned to my laptop
by my home office DHCP server). However, when the laptop is not
connected to the home office network this ip doesn't exist of course
and the connection doesn't work.

I want to create an IP on the Win host which is always available even
if there is no active network. Is something like that possible and if
yes, how do I set it up?
Hi,

I have Ubuntu 15.04 x64 OS running on a remote VDS server. I need to
change the primary DNS IP address to another address other than the
default address provided. I read instructions online to change
/etc/resolv.conf but after editing it I can't make it read only. Non
of the chmod commands work on that file. Also, I read that I would
also need to edit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf, but when I did "sudo
nano /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf", it showed me a blank screen.
What do I have to do to properly change the primary DNS IP address on
Ubuntu 15.04 and make it so that it does not get overwritten upon
reboot or other system triggers? By the way, I do not have a GUI
desktop installed nor do I plan on installing one.

Thanks.
DEAR ALL,

I have successfully installed the driver, but i still can't have
wireless connection.

I am running Ubuntu 15.04 x64 OS on a remote VDS server. I do
not have a GUI Desktop installed nor do I plan on installing one. As
to my issue, I notice that a lot of the processes running are those
for which the user tasks have been completed. For instance, if I open
a file with nano for editing and then close it. I still see
"sudo nano ....." in the list of processes running which I
pull up wth the "ps -aux" command. So at a given point the
total memory usage would be like 12%, but when I reboot the server, it
would go down to 9%. How can I make it so that completed tasks don't
continue to consume memory?

Thanks for your help in advance.

when doing sudo apt-get install python-scipy on an
Ubuntu 12.10 machine, I get this:

Hi i'm Trying fixing my Windows 7 system with a broken harddrive,
but it's still running.

I'm trying copy all data to a new drive to reinstall Windows 7.
Drive called SQSERVICE.

I can't copy at all - see below:

$ sudo dd if=/dev/sdc1 of=/dev/sda1
dd: reading `/dev/sdc1': Input/output error
11233976+0 records in
11233976+0 records out
5751795712 bytes (5.8 GB) copied, 187.731 s, 30.6 MB/s

How to fix this "Input/output error"?

I'm trying to set up connection via VPN. I need to use Cisco
AnyConnect. First I was getting error Cerfitication validation
error
. Then I added certificate (.pfx format) through firefox.
Then When I tried to connect again with AnyConnect, it popped me to
enter username and password.

I entered both username and password, but when I pressed to log in,
I got this error:

The AnyConnect package on the secure gateway could not be
located. You may be experiencing network connectivity issues. Please
try connecting again.

I also tried OpenConnect, I managed to connect with it (I get
response that I successfully connected). But when I tried to enter
client website, it just start loading and nothing happens. When I
tried to ping client's website, it returns IP only once and stops.

What could be the cause?

P.S. My client said that using OpenConnect, might not let to see
website, because of OpenConnect not knowing what kind of access I got
to their site.

Using (K)Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a HP Stream Mini desktop. It's in use
as a HTPC and I'd like to get an aftermarket Bluetooth keyboard to
work. I connect to a wired network so not bothered about the wifi
although it does appear to be recognised and work.

I Googled for the USB device ID which seems to be a HP custom part
as the device ID isn't supported by other BCM Windows firmware/driver
bundles. I found:

href="http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=183217&p=949868"
rel="nofollow">http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=183217&p=949868

...which gives a link to href="http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb"
rel="nofollow">http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb
for the firmware (notice the USB device ID in that link is the same -
216D). I've tried (from that Mint link):

dpkg-deb -x
bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb bt-bcm43142

sudo cp bt-bcm43142/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd
/lib/firmware/fw-105b_e065.hcd

sudo rmmod btusb

sudo modprobe btusb

However dmesg still shows:

[ 1170.856683] usbcore: deregistering interface driver
btusb
[ 1170.856766] Bluetooth: hci0 urb ffff88020f9de540 failed to resubmit

[ 1177.432179] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb
[ 1177.432184] usb 2-7: Direct firmware load failed with error -2
[ 1177.432189] usb 2-7: Falling back to user helper
[ 1177.444258] Bluetooth: can't load firmware, may not work correctly
[ 1179.449809] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x1003 tx timeout

So I also tried copying that file to /lib/firmware/fw-0a5c_216d.fcd
(i.e. renaming it according to the USB manufacturer/device IDs) and
also /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM43142A0-0a5c-216d.hcd (as well as
fw-0a5c_216d.fcd and fw-105b_e065.hcd in /lib/firmware/brcm). Still
no joy with exactly the same problems in dmesg.

Presuming that this is the correct firmware, which I'm pretty sure
it is, how can I get the btusb module to recognise that firmware
file?

The Linux mint link suggests editing /etc/modprobe.d/bcm43142.conf
but I don't have that file on my system?

ls /etc/modprobe.d/
alsa-base.conf blacklist-firewire.conf
blacklistrare-network.conf iwlwifi.conf
blacklist-ath_pci.conf blacklist-framebuffer.conf
blacklist-watchdog.conf mlx4.conf
blacklist-bcm43.conf blacklist-modem.conf dkms.conf
vmwgfx-fbdev.conf
blacklist.conf blacklist-oss.conf
fbdev-blacklist.conf

Many thanks for any help.
