svn: add all my new files and directories
25/12/2015 9:47 am by zz64 in Unix

I'm using Solaris 10. I need to add to SVN everything I've placed in the sub directories of my SVN checkout. I have added files and directories and sub directories - is there a command to take care of everything at once?

If not, is there a command I can run to list all the items I have added that have not been added to SVN yet?

How do I format these two complex cron statements?
25/12/2015 9:47 am by cbrunny in Unix

I need two very specific cron statements:

  1. A cron entry that would run on the 2nd Monday of each month every 4 hours beginning at 02:00 and execute the file /opt/bin/cleanup.sh

  2. A cron entry that would run at 18:15 on the 3rd day of every month ending in an "r" that executes /opt/bin/verrrrrrrry.sh

I've already tried various cron testers:

How to reduce performance of storage server?
25/12/2015 9:47 am by Megatomic in Unix

I want the storage server to reduce performance after the licence expired, instead of powering it off which seems too violent. I have considered limiting net speed, however some customers may just use Fibre Channel to communicate. As a storage server, it mainly accesses data through disk, so how do I limit the disk I/O speed? Any other better choice to reduce server performance aside from stopp

Ubuntu 14.04 VBox VM boot with minute delay
25/12/2015 9:47 am by RKelln in Unix

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 inside VirtualBox 5.0.10 r104061, installed from the mini.iso from Canonical.

Somehow, booting has gotten a huge delay (edit: 'huge' for me being... a good minute staring at the message (which is not the cause, because I've seen it before, without the delays)

Python imports working for root, but not specific user
25/12/2015 9:47 am by Jan D in Unix

I'm trying to run a python script through a user account, call it myuser. I want to be able to execute the dropbox.py script without logging into or su'ing into root. The program works perfectly when I am either logged in as root, or su'd into root, but I want to find a way to not have to su over to root and then run it every time I start up.

When I run it as myuser, I get the following

Cannot write Systemback .sblive image to hard disk partition
25/12/2015 9:47 am by Chennai in Unix

I was trying Systemback utility on my Linux Mint recently. I created a live system restore (8.2 GB). The utility gives an option of writing the created .sblive image to a usb drive, but unfortunately I don't have a pen drive with 8.2 GB space.

So, I decided to make a separate 10 GB partition in my 1 TB external hard disk and intended to write the live system .sblive on it.

rsync exclude directory not working, when also scanning for only *.php files
25/12/2015 9:47 am by Madmick in Unix

Im trying to rsync all the .PHP and .HTML files from any directory inside of /home/ . However in /home/site2/public_html/cache_old/ there are .html files that i do not want to include in the sync (thus i want to exclude that directory and any of its sub-directories)

Here is the best rsync command i can come up with (after lots of testing and failures):

LVM block allocation for snapshots

I've found this in 'man 8 lvcreate', which raises some questions for me. So:

... Thin snapshot shares same blocks within the thin pool volume. ;

Question: same blocks? Same blocks as the Origin of the Snapshot, or just "also blocks form the same pool", or ...

How do I install Supervisor on CentOS?
25/12/2015 9:47 am by kamyar in Unix

I have zero-knowledge of Linux. I always found the interface where I get to click things with a mouse curser to be easier for me than black-windows with a lot of text-lines (at least that's my vision of "linux" I guess).

I am starting a website/software of sort and I was requested by my programmers to carry out several things on the server (I purchased a dedicated server with "CentOS" o
