Floated+cleared element not affecting following floated elements in IE7 - is there a workaround?

I'm trying to style a definition list so that
dt tags start
new rows, and can be followed by any number of
dd elements on
the same row. In modern browsers this is as simple as

Image max-width (non floated) use space next to floated div?
by CodeOfficer in Web Design
The site I'm working on will display lengthy articles on screen. The
site is responsive so everything you see on screen will re-size and re-flow
to accommodate different screens. Previously we had a two column layout
where the articles would be in the left floated div. And a side bar of
shorter content would be in the right hand floated div.

centering a div between one that's floated right and one that's floated left
by jcwagers in Web Design
I have a page in which a header consists of three divs - one that's
floated to the left, one that's floated to the right, and one that's in
between them. I'd like for that central div to be centered, yet sadly
float: center doesn't exist and I can't just float it to the
left and add padding as it'd have to change depending on the window size.

Cross-browser sizing of floated divs inside of floated divs

I'd like to get the following sizing behavior on a row of data. The
'abcd...' field is a variable size, and I'd like as much of it displayed as
possible after all the other fields have taken up their required space. The
'0123...' field is a variable size, and I'd like fully displayed right
after the first field. The 'X' field is a known fixed size, and I'd like
it pinned to the right side.

If there is a better design approach, or easily searchable phrase I can
google, feel free to let me know and I'll quickly take this down.
Unfortunately, I don't think I am Googling the right terms.

Non floated div next to two floated divs
by Summerfun in Web Design
I have a container which has two children divs (toggle yellow background
to see them) which are left floated. I wanted to add a third one (red
colored) below those two, without any floating, but it stretches through
all the container. Any ideas why?
