How do I setup a rails project to use an edge source tree (not an installed gem) version of rails
by CodeOfficer in Programming Languages

I would like the rails 3.0 source tree in my project so I can use patches, etc. I don' want to freeze rails. I would like to be able to pull updates from the main repo too. How do I accomplish this?

In particular the getting started guide, has me confused with

As the root user:
# gem install bundler
# bundle install

If I install the bund

Ruby on Rails: Error while using validation_reflection on Rails 3.2 model - Formtastic cannot display errors
by ti22 in Programming Languages

I am successfully using formtastic to display my new/edit views for my models.

The railscast on formtastic talks about installing a plugin 'validation_reflection'. Since this railscast is fairly old, I was wary of installing the plugin. I found the validation_reflection gem, installed it. When I access a model I am getting:

undefined method `write_inheritable_array'

Rails: Setting class and data-tag of an HTML attribute with a single rails method
by ElFenix in Web Design

I'm currently working on a tour interface that guides new users around my site. I have a Tour model that has many TourStops, each of which contains information about a section of the site.

Basically, I'd like to write a function for the Tour model that -- when passed the number of a TourStop -- generates the correct class and data attribute for the HTML element it's attatched to. Fo

How do I figure out why errors are occurring when running unit tests on app that is being upgraded from Rails 2.3 to Rails 3.0?
by Hosein Mohtasham in Programming Languages

I've been tasked with upgrading an app from Rails 2.3.5 to 3.0.19. This also involves upgrading Ruby from 1.8.6 to 1.8.7. After this upgrade is complete and stable, the plan is then to move to Ruby 1.9 and Rails 3.2.

Gems (output from bundle install), fyi:

Using rake (10.0.3)
Using abstract (1.0.0)
Using activesupport (3.0.19)

Huge memory leak / bloat after Upgrading from Rails 3.0 to Rails 3.2 (Ruby 1.9.3 + Passenger)
by gqlewis in Programming Languages

Last week we upgraded a small project which was running on Rails 3.0.1 to Rails 3.2.2.

Shortly after the upgrade we recognized that occasionally, 2-3 times a day, we're seening a huge Phusion Passenger process (1-5 GB).

We're running Phusion Passenger 3.0.11 and Ruby 1.9.3-p0. We already tried different Ruby version (1.9.2-p290 and 1.9.3-p125) without a success.

Is there a “Rails Way” to fold a Twitter Bootstrap theme into a Rails 3 application?
by Caleb Ames in Development Tools & Services

I purchased a nice-looking Twitter Bootstrap them online that is going to spice up my Rails 3.2.8 application. The package contains the following directories:

Of course these files will have relative links to each other in them. Is there a standard way of integrating this type of stuff into the asset pipeline, or is it still a standard

rails server not starting - trying to run code from ryan bates railscasts application with rails 3
by Skee in Web Design

I am trying to work with ryan bates' sample code that he uses for his railscast on Daemon (episode 129). I have rails 3 installed, and when I downloaded his code, I cannot run the server. To try and fix this, I copied my gemfile and gemfile.lock from a standard rails 3 application, and put it into his application, then ran bundle install. Still, my rails server does not respond. Instead, I
