preventing rewrite rules causing internal service error when URL Rewrite is not enabled

We distribute a product (PHP based) along with a .htaccess and a web.config set of rewrite rules for "pretty" URLs.


The problem is that under IIS if URL Rewrite is not installed; the system generates an internal server error.


We are looking for a way to prevent this; at the very least to just give an error message that we can configure to explain what the user needs to d

Apache Rewrite: rewrite ONLY index URLs regardless of depth with file extension exceptions

I have this somewhat working though it's important to understand the setup.


With multi-domain support (multiple domains using the exact same copy of software) I need to rewrite ONLY the directories (which end cleanly like dir1/ or dir2/).

Complicated URL Rewrite. Rewriting index.php, yet wanting to rewrite other.php to load without extension

I have an installation of CodeIgniter. Basically, my directory structure looks like this:

Right now, I can only load one application, which is defined in index.php. What I would like to do is be able to rename index.php to application1.ph

Ionics Isapi Rewrite - Can rewrite actually just change my URL address only in the request?
