This might help you I don't think the second one is particularly good at all. If you return nothing from a method that is always expected to return something, the code will likely just fail somewhere else, instead of close to where the actual problem is i.e. within the getDomainFromURL function.
If on the other hand, it's perfectly OK for this method to return nothing when the parameter is null, then it doesn't make sense to add the assertion.

seems to work fine Well spotted, the assertive package isn't handling missing values properly in its regex-related functions.
This should return NA.
code :
is_uk_telephone_number(NA)
##  <NA>
## FALSE
assignInNamespace(
  "matches_regex",
  function (x, rx, ignore.case = TRUE, ...)
  {
    call_and_name(
      function(x)
      {
        ifelse(
          is.na(x),
          NA,
          grepl(rx, x, ignore.case = ignore.case, ...)
        )
      },
      x
    )
  },
  "assertive"
)

will help you Data on the web is always sent and received as strings. JavaScript needs the data in a format that it can understand, for example JSON.
PHP has an in-built function to convert your data, e.g. your array, into JSON called json_encode(). It also has a sister function for decoding JSON into PHP called json_decode().

should help you out You could take an object as result set and add the objects to the result set with the given parent value.
code :
var categories = [{ id: 1, parent: [0], size: 1 }, { id: 2, parent: [0], size: 2 }, { id: 3, parent: [1], size: 3 }, { id: 4, parent: [2], size: 0 }, { id: 5, parent: [1], size: 2 }, { id: 6, parent: [1], size: 1 }, { id: 7, parent: [1], size: 0 }, { id: 8, parent: [2], size: 3 }],
    parents = categories.reduce((r, o) => {
        o.parent.forEach(index => {
            (r[index] = r[index] || []).push(o);
            r[index].sort((a, b) => a.size - b.size);
        });
        return r;
    }, {});

console.log(parents);
.as-console-wrapper { max-height: 100% !important; top: 0; }
