How to get opposite direction of `git diff origin/master`

I hope this helps . Right: git diff commit-specifier compares the given commit's tree to the work-tree, with the commit's tree on the "left side" as a/ and the work-tree on the "right side" as b/. As you noted, it's tough to reverse these as the work-tree is implied by the lack of a second tree or commit specifier.
Fortunately, git diff has a -R option to reverse the two sides, so git diff -R commit-specifier does the trick.

will help you Usually the "dots" notation is for specifying ranges and full doc on that is available in git log --help section "Specifying Revisions" and mostly used for listings like git log.
Briefly speaking you have two branches started from commit a:
code :
a - b - c (master)
\d - e (topic)
git diff topic master

I wish did fix the issue. git diff does not fetch the latest changes from the origin remote. You have to run git fetch origin prior to git diff.
On the other hand, git pull already includes the fetching step (and also merges the remote changes).

I think the issue was by ths following , This is not possible in SourceTree.
I asked this question here on answers.atlassian.com and found out from an Atlassian employee that the ability to do a diff in the opposite direction is not available, that a diff between commits is always shown in "forward history" order.
code :
$ cd {repo}
$ git diff --name-only 3333..1111 > /tmp/list_of_files_changed
$ git checkout 1111
$ mkdir /tmp/files_changed
$ cp --parents -pr $(cat /tmp/list_of_files_changed) /tmp/files_changed
$ git checkout 3333
$ cp -pr /tmp/files_changed/* .
# (now look at the diff in SourceTree for the working copy)

Hope this helps This form of git diff just takes two revision specifiers, as described in gitrevisions.
In this case origin is most likely to match item 6:
code :
git rev-parse origin
