Why this java code is showing strange behavior?

I wish did fix the issue.
The java.util.Scanner.nextLine() method advances this scanner past the current line and returns the input that was skipped. This method returns the rest of the current line, excluding any line separator at the end. The position is set to the beginning of the next line.

wish help you to fix your issue You have just witnessed HotSpot optimizing your entire loop to oblivion. It's smart. You need to do some real action inside the loop. I recommend introducing an int accumulator var and doing some bitwise operations on it, and finally printing the result to ensure it's needed after the loop.

seems to work fine I do not have much to ask really. Heck I don't even know what the question should say. Basically, this Java code works fine without any compilation errors. , You notice that you have instantiated your array in your constructor?
code :
static String[][] tiles;

public Application() {
    tiles = new String[9][9];  <--- Here
static {
    tiles = new String[9][9];
static String[][] tiles = new String[9][9];

it helps some times You need to make sure the variables you pass are escaped correctly so as to be used as literal text inside a regex pattern. Use re.escape(acro):
code :
import re
text = "there are many people in the world having colorectal cancer (crc) who also have the depression syndrome (ds)"
acronym_list = ["(crc)", "(ds)"]
for acro in acronym_list:
    p = r'((?:\w+\W+){1,%d}%s)' %(acrolen, re.escape(acro))
    # Or, use format:
    # p = r'((?:\w+\W+){{1,{0}}}{1})'.format(acrolen, re.escape(acro))
    find_words= re.findall(p, text, re.I)
    for word in find_words:
print rt

Why is hashset showing strange behavior?

Hope that helps You're first adding the empty HashSet, and only one is allowed suggesting that your second if boolean test is no good:
code :
HashSet<Integer> hash = new HashSet<>();
int q =Math.abs(y-u);
if(y!=u && q==1 ) {
    System.out.println(seq[y]+" "+seq[u]);
HashSet<Integer> hash = new HashSet<>();
int q = Math.abs(y-u);
if(y != u && q == 1 ) {

    System.out.println(seq[y] + " " + seq[u]);
if (q == 1) {

    System.out.println(seq[y] + " " + seq[u]);
