should help you out getRemoteHost returns the name of the client that sent the request, while getServerName returns the name of the server that received the request.
It might be the same results in your local tests if you are using two machines on the network, one as a client and one for the server.

HttpServletRequest.getServerName() occasionally returning null in concurrent use?

Hope this helps Under JBoss 4.0.1SP1, I have a servlet that makes multiple, concurrent calls to web services that are running under the same instance. I'm using request.getServerName() (on HttpServletRequest) to construct the endpoint URL. This normally works fine, but every once in a while returns null. ,
Any ideas on fixing this?

To fix this issue It's indeed the IP of the machine running the browser, so it'd return 127.0.0.1, or in your case ::1, which is localhost in IPv6.

Any of those help Instead of mapping the filter to an overly generic URL pattern, map it to URLs and/or servlets of actual interest. Below example maps it to a specific servlet.
code :
@WebFilter(filterName = "sessionFilter", servletNames = {"yourServlet"})
@WebServlet(servletName = "yourServlet", urlPatterns = {"/test/aaa"})

this one helps. In Tomcat, for example, the connector has a setting "enableLookups" which is disabled by default for performance reasons. See http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/config/http.html
Other containers may have different methods of doing the same thing.

this one helps. In my development environment, getRemoteHost() successfully returns the client's PC/machine name. But once I deploy my application to our production environment, getRemoteHost() suddenly is returning the IP address. , From the Java API
java.lang.String getRemoteHost()
