To fix this issue Activities can't be executed when not in foreground.
But, if you have a Service working for the activity, it will, and then when your activity come back to foreground it will get the updates the service did.

With these it helps If I remember correctly, onResume() gets triggered any time an activity gets on foreground. If your app contains more than one activity, you should check all of them.

it fixes the issue Consider creating a BaseActivity that will handle all the initialization and checking stuff that all activities should do. Now let all your activities extend the BaseActivity, instead of directly extending Activity.
This way if you'll need to add a new activity, the only thing you'll have to do will be to extend BaseActivity.

Any of those help what if you take care of ActivityLifecycle (OnPause, OnStop).
You can add a flag when the activity goes "OnPause/OnStop" depending what you want. And them perform the intent just if the activity is not "Pause/Stop".
