I wish this helpful for you In TP systems, rollback can occur based on:
an explicit request, like a call to ROLLBACK or similar any uncaught exception or error. These might include: loss of communication with a participant (in a distributed transaction) an invalid or out-of-range value or parameter a timeout, due to inability to acquire a lock for example, or user delay. in a two-phased commit distributed transaction, a failure of one of the participants to vote to commit

will be helpful for those in need Some RDMS (at least Oracle ) have READ ONLY isolation level. Otherwise, I prefer ROLLBACK since it doesn't create an entry in transaction log (a bit better from performance point of view).
Update Some explanations.

around this issue I figured it out. I have to use $db = Zend_Db_Table_Abstract::getDefaultAdapter(); and then run my transactions off that so all operations in multiple models work together under a single transaction. If anyone has a fix for that, feel free to comment.

utx.rollback() has no effect on your java variables.
