Hope that helps A web service reference don't support Lists, only arrays.
If you use Service Reference instead of Web Reference you can specify the collection type to use.

Adding IEnumerable<Type> to IList<Type> where IList doesn't contain primary key - LAMBDA

it helps some times
I know I have to call ToList() on the IList to get access to the AddRange() method
code :
var itemsToAdd = enumerablePrices.Where(p => !SelectedPrices.Any(sel => sel.ID == p.ID));
foreach(var item in itemsToAdd)
{
    SelectedPrices.Add(item);
}
var existing = new HashSet<int>(SelectedPrices.Select(p => p.ID));
var itemsToAdd = enumerablePrices.Where(p => !existing.Contains(p.ID));
foreach(var item in itemsToAdd)
{
    SelectedPrices.Add(item);
}

seems to work fine I have a class: , LocationIDs is not initialized therefore it is giving you the error.
code :
public IList<int> LocationIDs { get; set; }
public ClientModelData()
{
  LocationIDs = new List<int>();
}

may help you . Just for fun here is a rewrite i think will do the trick for you, as well as its a little simpler.
code :
public IList<Courses> GetHallamUniCourses()
{
    return _hallamUniProxy.GetAllCourses().Select(a=>
           new Courses()
           {
               CourseID = a.CourseId,
               CourseName = a.CourseName,
               CourseDescription = a.CourseDescription,
               EntryRequirements = a.EntryCriteria
           }).ToList();
}
//The name of the class must be Name+Controller, and it must extend Controller
class SomeController: Controller{
    //This is a method in the controller, it returns a Result
    //its URI is http[s]://Domain/Some
    public ContentResult Index(){
        return Content("Hello");
    }

    //This is a sub method of controller some, it's URI is http[s]://Domain/Some/Else
    public ContentResult Else(){
        return Content("Hello");
    }
}

Strange Null Reference Error while adding element to IList

I wish this help you You are nullifying the instance and then based on some condition trying to add the elements to the NULL object. That is not right.
Please change this line :
code :
selected = null;
selected.Clear();
void Update() {
selected = new List<GameObject>();
