FATAL ERROR: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function execute() on boolean in

may help you . The prepare functions can return the statement object or false. If you get a false that means that there was an error.
Try printing the error with $conn->errno or $conn->error, to have a better understanding of what your issue is.
code :
function get_kurs($block){
    global $conn;

    if($stmt = $conn->prepare("SELECT FachKürzel FROM `Fach` LEFT JOIN `Stunde` ON Fach.Fachname = Stunde.Fachname WHERE Stunde.Stunde = ?")){
        $stmt->bind_param("s", $block);
        printf('errno: %d, error: %s', $conn->errno, $conn->error);

    print $kuerzel;

I wish did fix the issue. You are not returning a promise returned by then in countRegions method. So you should add return in your code like this
code :
const countRegions = db => {
  return db.regions.count().then(total => {
    console.log(`db has ${total} count for regions`);
    return total;
return db.regions.count();

Does that help You have three mistakes in your code:
SELECT TOP X is SQL Server syntax, but judging by the API in your code, you're using MySQL, so you need to use LIMIT X.

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function execute() on bool

I wish did fix the issue. mysqli does not support named parameters, you need question marks.
You also need to bind the parameters before you execute, you cannot send an array with values like in PDO.
code :
$statement = $con->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = ?");
$statement->bind_param("s", $email);
$result = $statement->execute();
