mysql_fetch_assoc error, can't seem to figure out what the problem is

Hope this helps You should always check the return value of mysql_query before you use mysql_fetch_assoc
When the execution of query fails mysql_query returns false ( a boolean) and when you give this as an input to mysql_fetch_assoc, you get your error.
code :

Problem with $_POST, if isset() and mysql_fetch_assoc(): echo returns correct value, page source always returns else val

hope this fix your issue Use $_GET or $_SESSION variables
The problem boiled down to Google Chrome. The issue I was having was a recognized bug in the software: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=523 which I believe they are fixing in future editions of Google Chrome. I have just update mine and still does not work correctly.

around this issue Because mysql_fetch_assoc is already called once before the while loop, the first row is always discarded.
This should solve your problems:
code :
$query = "SELECT * FROM tags t
JOIN tag_relational r
ON t.tag_id=r.tag_id
WHERE r.job_id = $job_id";

$result=mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());

<p>Job Catagories |
$first = true;
while ($cats=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {
        $first = false;
    } else{
        echo ", ";
    echo $cats['tag_name'];
For Each loop not echoing data (mysql_fetch_assoc problem?)

wish helps you You have constructed your SQL query in $emailQuery, but never executed it. Call mysql_query(), and pass its result resource to mysql_fetch_assoc().
code :
$emailQuery = "SELECT fbID, firstName, lastName FROM users WHERE emailOne='".$upgradeEmail."' AND authLevel=0";
$result = mysql_query($emailQuery);
if ($result)
  while($emailRow = mysql_fetch_assoc($result, $conn))
else // your query failed
   // handle the failure
$upgradeEmail = mysql_real_escape_string($_GET['currEmail']);

it fixes the issue I've figured out what the problem is. The point at which the error occurs is on the line
code :
Cannot figure out Kata Direction Reduction problem error

wish helps you There were four errors I found.
1) The case "NORTH","SOUTH","SOUTH","EAST","WEST","NORTH" should end up back where you started, so the array length should be 0, as requested by Codewars. To get that to work, I got rid of your special case for both direction counts being 0 and let what had been your else case deal with it by adding 0 and 0 to get the array size. [This error is the one mentioned in your question]
code :
public static String[] dirReduc(String[] arr) {
    int directionNS = 0;
    int directionEW = 0;
    for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
        if (arr[i] == "NORTH") {
        } else if (arr[i] == "SOUTH") {
        } else if (arr[i] == "EAST") {
        } else if (arr[i] == "WEST") {
        } else {
            System.out.println("Invalid Direction.");

    String[] reducArray;
    //removed special case for ending up back where one started, that will be made a 0 length array as it should be
    reducArray = new String[Math.abs(directionNS) + Math.abs(directionEW)]; //note have to take abs of each so one does not cancel out the other
    if (directionNS > 0) {
        for (int i = 0; i < directionNS; i++) {
            reducArray[i] = "NORTH";
    } else if (directionNS < 0) {
        for(int i = 0; i < Math.abs(directionNS); i++){//keep the i's positive so they work in the array easily
            reducArray[i] = "SOUTH";

    if (directionEW > 0) {
        for (int i = 0; i < directionEW; i++) {
            reducArray[i + Math.abs(directionNS)] = "EAST"; //note have to start where north south left off
    } else if (directionEW < 0) {
        for(int i = 0; i < Math.abs(directionEW); i++){
            reducArray[i + Math.abs(directionNS)] = "WEST";

    return reducArray;
