Error receiving in UDP: Connection refused

Hope that helps Chances are your're sending something to a server who does not listen on that particular port. That would cause an icmp message to be sent back , and your next recvfrom will return an error in the case where you connect the socket.
Check with tcpdump or wireshark what's going on on the wire.

will help you Trying to trick the api container into connecting to sqs by telling it that it's actually connecting to localhost isn't going to work. You need to make sqs available to api under a name that doesn't already have a special meaning, like:
code :

    - sqs:original-name

may help you . I had this problem when I was using a hostname other than localhost. I discovered that the default setting for the network server will only allow connections on the "localhost" address.
To change this set this property in derby.properties

will help you Please make sure you have entry of 127.0.0.1 localhost in /etc/hosts if there is any other IP for localhost then remove it. Connect to localhost:13663 [localhost/127.1.0.0] indicates localhost is for some reason going to 127.1.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1

it fixes the issue You are using localhost address within the container which is not the same as your host's address. You should do one of the following instead:
Use your actual host's IP from app's container Use postgresdb container's IP with the native port (5432). You can discover this IP using docker inspect postgresdb. Use postgresdb as host name and the native port (5432) when connecting both containers to the same network
