Measuring Class Dependencies

around this issue This may not help (right now), but it looks like VS 2010 will have a dependency graph feature out of the box. Looks like it will do class, namespace, and assembly dependencies.

How to unit test a class derived from a base class with lots of dependencies?

will help you So you have a base class and an extended class. See if you can refactor the extended class to no longer extend the base class, but use it instead. So where you first called parent::fooBar(), you now call this.baseInstance.fooBar(). This way, you can inject another baseInstance for test purposes.
If you really need to extend the base class to override something, extract the functionality to a third class and make the extended class a proxy. The extended class does nothing else than call methods on the third class. E.g.
code :
protected fooBar() {
    return this.realImplementation.fooBar();
}

Is it ok for class A to hold onto class B's dependencies because class A instantiates class B after invoking a method

it fixes the issue You have 4 dependencies you want to inject in a new controller instance, 2 have a request/response life cycle and 2 have a longer life cycle (process?), before invoking some method on it. I would separate the creation of the controller from the invoking by creating a controller factory.
The controller factory would instantiate a controller using a method that receives only the request and reponse objects as parameters. The factory would be aware of the life cycle of the two longer lifed dependencies, perhaps share the same life cycle. The factory's user is then free to invoke any method they would like on the (abstract) controller returned. This is more flexible than the delegation pattern you propose. You could of course still use delegation, but then I would probably still have the Dispatcher only do dispatching and leave object creation to a factory.

Measuring the number of JVM instructions in a class

Hope that helps There is an excellent tool for understanding the behavior of the Java HotSpot Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler during the execution of your program - JITWatch.
Warning: Modern JVMs are too complex, and do all kinds of optimization so the number of JVM's instructions means nothing from performance point of view. If you try to measure some small piece of code, it is really complicated to do it correctly without very, very detailed knowledge of what the JVM is doing. Please be aware(http://shipilev.net/blog/2014/java-scala-divided-we-fail/) and use it on your own risk:

OOP: should there be category class and how to handle measuring units?

fixed the issue. Will look into that further The "problem 2" is the simplest: you store all the measurements in SI units (metric) and convert them, when you are producing a response, based on users localization options.
As for "problem 1" ... well ... I would assume, that each product would belong in multiple categories (many-to-many on the SQL side). I would use a separate class for that. The APU would be kinda like this:
code :
$categories = new CategoryCollection;
$mapper = new CategoryMapper;

$categories->forProduct($productID);
$mapper->fetch($categories);

// .. etc.

Measuring the number of methods in a class

I wish this help you I am supposed to count the number of methods in a class of any .NET program. For this I am making use of the il of that particular program. Initially I thought that I would count the number of "ret" in the il. But then I found out that even method declarations consists of the "ret" keyword. Then I tried to go with "callvirt". But this would not work in all the cases. Now I am thinking about something like this :- , My preferred methods:
Method 1:
