around this issue Google App Engine now supports OAuth tokens to handle automated deployment, which does not expose your Google account password.

With these it helps Easiest is to use use appengine.IsDevAppServer() to tell if your app is running in development mode (using the AppEngine SDK) or live (in production):
code :
func IsDevAppServer() bool
func ServerSoftware() string
var DEBUG_MODE bool

func init() {
    DEBUG_MODE = appengine.IsDevAppServer()
}
var DEBUG_MODE = appengine.IsDevAppServer()

may help you . The value for --project must correspond to a Google Cloud Platform project ID.
It's unclear whether you replaced your actual project ID (NB Project IDs and Project names are distinct properties, see link) with project-name when you pasted your question.
code :
gcloud projects describe [[PROJECT]]

hope this fix your issue The problem is most likely due to how Google crippled the urllib2 module on GAE.
Internally it now uses the urlfetch module (which is something that Google wrote) and they have completely removed the HTTPCookieProcessor() functionality - meaning, cookies are NOT persisted from request to request which is the critical piece when automatically logging into sites programmatically.

will be helpful for those in need Normally, after a successful deployment, the Google App Engine Eclipse plugin launches a browser tab pointing to your-app-id.appspot.com. If this fails, you can get a NullPointerException as you have described.
This is what happens to me, at least, with Eclipse 4.3 (Kepler) and app-engine sdk 1.8.6.

To fix the issue you can do Ok so as usual, more research eventually revealed the answer. And stackoverflow. Guess I missed this first because it specified with php.Stack Overflow Question
Basically i wasnt doing anything wrong afterall, the permission problem was that it was being blocked by my google account. I had to go to my Account Security permissions, and enable access from less-secure devices.
