like below fixes the issue libcurl is another option. It is actually platform independent. The thing that you might not like with this library is that you will need some extra DLLs.

How to get a custom Status code to work? Or How to solve this problem using a built in http status code?

will be helpful for those in need Try using a custom HTTP header instead of inventing some inexistent in the HTTP specification status codes that might not be served by IIS.
code :
[HttpGet]
public ActionResult Index()
{
    string returnUrl = HttpContext.ApplicationInstance.Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"];

    // check to see if the user got redirected. Only 2 possibilities session timed out or they where not authenticated in the first place.
    if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(returnUrl))
    {
        Response.AppendHeader("X-LOGIN-PAGE", "true");
    }
    return View();
}
$.ajaxSetup({
    complete: function(jqXHR, textStatus) {
        if (jqXHR.getResponseHeader('X-LOGIN-PAGE') === 'true') {
             // We have gone through the Login method => the session
             // might have expired
             window.location = "/Account?SessionTimeOut=Yes";
        };
    }
});

jQuery $.get/$.ajax passes HTTP status code 200 instead of expected status code of 201 or 202

may help you . From what I have experienced jQuery is just not set up very well for handling actual status codes in the response. You can try just doing a manual AJAX call using some good old bare bones JS and handle the status yourself.
Here are a few tutorials on how to do so.

HTTP status code. What is the best status code for an empty parameter?

will be helpful for those in need Http statuses are just standards, you can adjust them to suit you. 204 no content is generally used when no response body is returned, so you want be able to respond from server with "no email provided whatever error massege". In DRF, 204 is returned (as default) after successful DELETE request, when entity was deleted at server, so there is no content left.
In your case I would go with 400. http://www.restapitutorial.com/httpstatuscodes.html is specifically mentioning "missing data" as an example of error 400 bad request usage, which might be exactly your case.

Custom HTTP Status Code other than Registered Status Code

To fix this issue a) I would argue that Spring is buggy when it only supports a hard-wired set of status codes; these are an extension point in HTTP and thus the set of status code is open-ended (well, until the range 100..599 has been filled up).
b) With respect to your use case -- maybe you could just use status code 422 instead (https://greenbytes.de/tech/webdav/rfc4918.html#STATUS_422)?

What status code should a client assume if an HTTP response has a payload but no status code?

will be helpful for those in need There is no such thing as a response without a status code. Every HTTP response has one, and if you didn't get one it means:
You weren't talking to a HTTP server. The HTTP server did something it shouldn't.
