Does that help Those methods don't exist in SensorEventListener. You must have copied this from a class that extends Activity. You'll need to call these methods on a Context object. You should define a custom constructor on your ShakeEventListener that takes a Context object:
code :
public class ShakeEventListener implements SensorEventListener {
    private Context mContext;

    public ShakeEventListener(Context context) {
        mContext = context;
    }

    /** omitting unchanged methods **/

    @Override
    public void onSensorChanged(SensorEvent sensorEvent) {
        //handleShake(sensorEvent);}
        float maxAcc = calcMaxAcceleration(sensorEvent);
        // void handleShake(sensorEvent){
        //float maxAcc = calcMaxAcceleration(sensorEvent);
        if(maxAcc>=15) {

            Intent intent = new Intent(mContext, Main.class);
            intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
            mContext.startActivity(intent);
        }
    }
}

hope this fix your issue I'm trying to read lines from a text file, choose one line from the file and insert it to a div on html page. , You have to return the promise in wordFromFile().
code :
function wordFromFile(fileName) {
    return $.get(fileName).then(function(data) {
        var lines = data.split("\n");
        var lineCount = lines.length;
        var randomIndex = Math.floor(Math.random() * lineCount);
        var word = lines[randomIndex];
        window.chosenWord = word;
        console.log("wordFromFile: "+chosenWord);
        return chosenWord;
    });
}
function setRandomWord() {
  wordFromFile("http://mypage.com/words.txt").then(appendWord);
}
$(function() {
  if($('body').is('.playpage')) {
    setRandomWord();
  }

});
$(function() {
  $("body.playpage").each(setRandomWord);
});
function wordFromFile(fileName) {
    return $.get(fileName).then(function(data) {
        var lines = data.split("\n");
        var randomIndex = Math.floor(Math.random() * lines.length);
        var word = lines[randomIndex];
        console.log("wordFromFile: "+word);
        return word;
    });
}

function setRandomWord() {
  return wordFromFile("http://mypage.com/words.txt")).then(appendWord);
}

function appendWord(word) {
  console.log("appendWord: "+word);
  $('.word').text(word);
}

$(function() {
  $("body.playpage").each(setRandomWord);
});

Any of those help I saw that you are using android studio. Sometimes this weird problem happens, a project clean solves the problem for me.
If you're sure about your code is correct, this seems to be an IDE problem, try clean project and invalid IDE cache.

this one helps. well, the syntax error was solved by using .text() instead of .json() on the results of my post request.
adding e.preventDefault() as the first line of my event listener callback fixed the event listener, and now everything is working as it should.
