How to scan a folder in Java?

like below fixes the issue Not sure how you want to represent the tree? Anyway here's an example which scans the entire subtree using recursion. Files and directories are treated alike. Note that File.listFiles() returns null for non-directories.
code :
public static void main(String[] args) {
    Collection<File> all = new ArrayList<File>();
    addTree(new File("."), all);

static void addTree(File file, Collection<File> all) {
    File[] children = file.listFiles();
    if (children != null) {
        for (File child : children) {
            addTree(child, all);
static void addTree(Path directory, Collection<Path> all)
        throws IOException {
    try (DirectoryStream<Path> ds = Files.newDirectoryStream(directory)) {
        for (Path child : ds) {
            if (Files.isDirectory(child)) {
                addTree(child, all);
static void addTree(Path directory, final Collection<Path> all)
        throws IOException {
    Files.walkFileTree(directory, new SimpleFileVisitor<Path>() {
        public FileVisitResult visitFile(Path file, BasicFileAttributes attrs)
                throws IOException {
            return FileVisitResult.CONTINUE;

How to scan a folder for files and their locations in java

I wish this helpful for you Peek around in the java.io.File API. There are at least three methods which may be of use:
listFiles() isDirectory() isFile()

Java: Efficient way to scan a folder for a particular file

This might help you There's no reason to recreate the File object. It just represents the file location, whether the file exists or not. Also you probably don't want a loop without at least a short delay, otherwise it'll just max out a processor until the file exists. You probably want something like this instead:
code :
File file = new File(filename);
while (!file.exists()) {

VB.Net Scan Folder & SubFolder for word 5.5 .DOCs and Save as RTF in a different Folder

To fix the issue you can do Unfortunately I would use the paid converters if I was able but this is something that we are only able to use VB.net for.
I am unable to upload any samples of the documents or errors I can only describe them.

PHP > Scan folder/subfolder for images > generate array for every folder

To fix the issue you can do You can try to make the array multidimensional by adding the folder name as key:
code :
foreach ($iterator as $fileinfo) {
    if (in_array($fileinfo->getExtension(), $extensions)) {
        $files[$fileinfo->getPath()][] = $fileinfo->getPathname();
$files["path1"][0] = file1;
$files["path1"][1] = file2;
$files["path2"][0] = file1;
$files["path2"][1] = file2;
