To fix this issue There is no protection on n exceeding 200. If there are more that 200 iterations of the while loop then:
code :
itemArr[n] = item;
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("inventory.txt"));
Map<Integer, String> items = new TreeMap<Integer, String>();

String line;
while (null != (line = br.readLine()))
{
    String[] line_parts = line.split(" ");
    if (line_parts.length > 1)
    {
        StringBuilder desc = new StringBuilder(line_parts[1]);
        for (int i = 2; i < line_parts.length; i++)
        {
            desc.append(line_parts[i]);
        }
        items.put(new Integer(line_parts[0]), desc.toString());
    }
}

for (Integer key: items.keySet())
{
    System.out.println(key + " = " + items.get(key));
}

it should still fix some issue I'm new to programming, so I could use your help with my code. I am trying to read an existing file that has data formatted like this: , One thing that pops into my eyes is this loop:
code :
while (getline(f, s, '|')) {
    myfile >> allTransaction.date >>
        allTransaction.stock >>
        allTransaction.sale >>
        allTransaction.price >>
        allTransaction.shares;
    data.push_back(allTransaction);
}
    std::vector<std::string> v;
    while (getline(f, s, '|')) {
      v.push_back(s);
    }
    if(v.size()!=5) {
      std::cerr << "expected 5 values" << std::endl;
      return false; // or throw an exception etc...
    }
// At this point you have a vector with the strings
// delimited by '|' ready for processing
// into your allTransaction class

help you fix your problem textread allows you to specify the delimiter-- it honors the property arguments of strread. The following code worked for me:
