it should still fix some issue If I need to do something like that I would normally move that external file or directory into my git repo and symlink it's original location to the new one.

    |
    |-bar-+

I hope this helps you . The doc says it's possible: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.7/svn.advanced.externals.html
Each external must be written on its line:

seems to work fine It's not possible to do what you're asking (and it's quite inadvisable anyway). However, you might look into submodules. Your projectA and projectB would contain a submodule called scripts. Of course that means you'll have to make scripts into its own repository, but that's probably a good thing. You can read up on submodules here:

External Cache Directory's Files will be removed when you uninstall your appplications while External File directory's files will not be affected.

Any of those help It's very simple. Git doesn't care about what's the name of its directory. It only cares what's inside. So you can simply do:
code :
# copy the directory into newrepo dir that exists already (else create it)
$ cp -r gitrepo1 newrepo

# remove .git from old repo to delete all history and anything git from it
$ rm -rf gitrepo1/.git
# move the directory instead
$ mv gitrepo1 newrepo

# make a copy of the latest version
# Either:
$ mkdir gitrepo1; cp -r newrepo/* gitrepo1/  # doesn't copy .gitignore (and other hidden files)

# Or:
$ git clone --depth 1 newrepo gitrepo1; rm -rf gitrepo1/.git

# Or (look further here: http://stackoverflow.com/q/1209999/912144)
$ git archive --format=tar --remote=<repository URL> HEAD | tar xf -
