hope this fix your issue A normal JTextArea doesn't support fancy things like different colors of text. However, there are similar components that do. See http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/text.html

it should still fix some issue No. What you're looking for is JEditorPane
This supports HTML (3.2?) which will allow you to use (and other older tags) to provide rich text.
code :
JEditorPane textarea = new JEditorPane("text/html", "");
textarea.setText("Here is some <b>bold text</b>");

fixed the issue. Will look into that further Solution is, no matter what textComponent is (whether JTextArea or JEditorPane):
code :
    textComponent.setFont(new JTextArea().getFont().deriveFont(11.5f));

JTextArea display text and strings

With these it helps The setText() method takes a single String argument, so you have to concatenate the strings, you want to display.
code :
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
sb.append("Hi").append(name).append(", how are you?");
messageArea.setText(MessageFormat.format("Hi {0} how are you?", name));

Code refuses to display text in JTextArea

seems to work fine Your text will not display until the whole jButton1ActionPerformed method returns.
Your code is running in the Swing event thread. This is the same thread which will actually do the painting of your component... and process all other events. So your GUI will be essentially frozen while the FTP is in progress.
code :
private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
  Thread t1 = new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run(){
    apppane_threadsafe( ... );
    // do your ftp stuff
    apppane_threadsafe( ... );
private void apppane_threadsafe(JTextPane log, String msg, Color c){
  EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() {
    apppane(log, msg, c);

JFrame: How to display text without JTextArea/JTextField

wish of those help The Graphics object for your JPanel actually can draw text on it's own by invoking the drawString command. I'll post an example, but I think it will be most helpful to read the full example that explains it here or here (I personally like the second one, but the first is a Stack Overflow question):
code :
protected void paintComponent(Graphics g)
   g.drawString("abc", 25, 25);
{Image of a d20} {Input1} d20 + {Input2} {Roll button}.
